Resource Lists

The Digitisation Service

The Library runs a Digitisation Service to make digital copies of key chapters or articles available for students on their Resource Lists and on Course Resources. This means students can access their key reading without having to leave the page.

These resources are provided in an accessible format and can be downloaded or printed off by students and there are no restrictions on access, meaning all students can access the material at the same time.

The University of Derby pays for a licence from the Copyright Licensing Agency (CLA) which allows the University to scan either a single chapter or article, or 10% of a whole publication, whichever is greater. All scans are accompanied by a copyright coversheet to ensure copyright compliance.

Requests for digitisation can be quicker than requesting a purchase of book, with an average turnaround time of 5 working days.

How to Request a Digitisation

To request a digitisation, follow these steps:

  • Go to your Online Resource list
  • Locate the book or article which you require digitisation from (bearing in mind Copyright limits as noted above)
  • Click on the title to open the detailed record
  • Look for the section heading 'Requests'
  • Click on Digitisation request and complete the online form

If you scroll down the page a little you will see information about Photocopying and Scanning permissions.
