Novice: Skills that build upon the Beginner level and that demonstrate an increased confidence and understanding.
The Novice level develops and enhances the skills learnt at the Beginner level. By the end of the Novice level you should feel more confidence and able to:
- Download, save or print relevant records from Library Search.
- Accurately record search results and understand why this is a key skill.
- Develop routines and systems for recording details of the sources of information you have searched.
- Understand how to use the different elements or sections of an information source; for example using the Abstract, contents page/list, the index etc. See this guide for more informaiton.
- Apply effective reading strategies such as skimming and scanning to extract key pieces of information for your assignments.
- Manage your time, understanding how the research process requires sufficient time to be effective.
- Seek opportunities to develop your skills by attending relevant workshops. (See the Tools to Help section for more information)
