Library Plus is a database.
Databases are often subject specific and allow researchers to look within their discipline for journal articles (academic, peer reviewed articles as well as more observational or reflective pieces), conference proceedings, systematic reviews, clinical trials and so on. There may be more than one database that's useful to a particular subject; health, for instance, has: Medline, Cinahl, AMED, PsycINFO, ScienceDirect, Science & Social Science Citation Index, PubMed, SportDISCUS etc. and this would mean that researchers had to search them all one by one.
Library Plus is different in that it is a database that searches other databases for you. From a health perspective it's very useful as it searches all of the databases I've mentioned above (apart from PubMed - you would still have to search that separately if you wanted to). Not only does Library Plus search lots of databases in one go--you can find a full list here--but it also searches the Library Catalogue for any print book or eBook results that match your keywords AND if you select the full-text option for article results it will cross-check against our E-Journals Finder list as well.
The LibGuide for Library Plus, and a list of all of the databases currently searched by it, can be found on this page.
Have a look at the guide before completing the exercise in the next box. (There is a printable version if you prefer to work with a handout).
