SCONUL Access Scheme

If you are a student from another University in the UK or the Republic of Ireland you may be interested in the SCONUL Access scheme.

Post-graduate, part-time, distance, and placement students can apply to join the scheme in order to borrow materials from the University of Derby libraries. Members will also be provided with limited access to computing facilities.

Full-time undergraduate students may be able to join the scheme to use the University's resources for reference only.

Members of the public

Members of the public are welcome to use the University Libraries as visitors. You will need to bring some ID and sign in to get a day pass.

This will enable you to use the Library to study. If you want to bring your own device there is visitor wifi available.

If you want to borrow books from the Library you need to register as an external borrower.

There is an annual £50 membership fee. Membership for Alumni of the University is free.

You will need to fill in an application form which will be provided at the Library service desk. If you are an Alumni you will need to bring proof you studied at the University (student card or certificate).

External borrower membership allows the following

  • You can borrow five loanable items at a time, but it does not include any electronic resources.
  • Items are issued for one week and automatically renew unless reserved by another user.
  • You cannot reserve items.

Buxton and Leek Hub Libraries

As part of Buxton and Leek College with a majority FE userbase, Buxton (Devonshire) and Leek Hub libraries must adhere to safeguarding policies in order to provide the necessary duty of care to students on site.

Therefore, these libraries are not open to members of the public for day passes. All other learners, SCONUL, Alumni, and Registered External Borrowers can use these libraries as normal
