Visitor Conduct Expectations

We extend a warm welcome to visitors to university facilities and properties and request that you adhere to the following expectations of visitor conduct whilst you are on university property:

All visitors should:

  • Treat all individuals with respect, kindness, and courtesy, regardless of their background, ethnicity, nationality, religion, gender, or age.
  • Avoid any form of discriminatory or offensive behaviour, including hate speech, harassment, or any other inappropriate conduct.
  • Conduct themselves in a professional and respectful manner.
  • Comply with all relevant laws.
  • Refrain from engaging in any illegal activities on university property.
  • Follow all security and safety guidelines provided by university staff and in the case an emergency, cooperate with university staff and follow their instructions for your safety and the safety of others.
  • Help us maintain a clean and sustainable environment by disposing of litter properly and recycling when possible.
  • Respect and protect university property, facilities, and surroundings.
  • Obtain necessary permissions for photography and videography, especially in sensitive areas or during events. Respect the privacy and personal space of individuals on campus; refrain from photographing or recording them without their consent.
  • Adhere to the university's policies on bringing pets or animals onto campus, if applicable. Visitors to the Library should go directly there and not deviate to any other area of the University.

Visitors are subject to the UniversitySexual Misconduct Policy. The University will not tolerate any form of harassment, victimisation, or discrimination in any form.

Any visitors who do not comply with these expectations, and any other relevant policies, will be asked to immediately leave campus and external authorities may be called where deemed necessary. Any incident may be subject to an internal investigation handled by a member of the Senior Management Team and may result in a temporary or permanent exclusion from all University events and campus access.

Library Usage Regulations

In order that all Library users have a positive experience whilst studying, we ask that everyone adheres to the following:

  • Users behave with good sense, behave with consideration towards others and respect their differences and take care in the use of the University's facilities or services.
  • Users will be considerate and respectful to the needs of fellow students, staff, and visitors to the University.
  • Users will comply with Government and University advice relating to Health & Safety of others, including any temporary requirements put in place.
  • Users will comply with reasonable requests or instructions from members of University staff.
  • Users will produce University-issued cards for identification purposes when requested to do so by University staff.
  • Users will behave and communicate in ways that do not unreasonably offend others and will conduct themselves appropriately in all forms of communication, including social media. Examples of unreasonably offensive behaviours include using abusive or obscene language and engaging in any form of discriminatory behaviour.
  • Users will act within the law and not engage in activity or behaviour that is likely to bring the University into disrepute.
  • Users must inform the University of any criminal proceedings or convictions that they are involved in whilst using the University’s facilities.
  • Community access of the University’s library facilities is at the discretion of the University Librarian.

The University considers the forms of inappropriate conduct that are set out below to constitute misconduct and will not be tolerated:

  • Inappropriate, abusive, offensive, indecent, harassing, threatening or stalking behaviour against members of the University or its visitors, including via social media.
  • Failure to respect the rights of others; discriminatory or abusive behaviour towards others, including on the basis of age, disability, gender, gender identity, pregnancy, maternity, race, religion, belief, or sexual orientation.
  • Causing, attempting or threatening to cause physical harm, injury, or mental distress, including where this was caused by controlling, coercive or threatening behaviour towards members of the University or its visitors.
  • Any conduct which constitutes sexual violence or misconduct against members of the University or its visitors.
  • Any behaviour which is intended to or is likely to disrupt teaching, learning, examinations, recreational activities or any other activities undertaken by or within the University.
  • Any conduct which adversely affects or puts at risk the safety, welfare or well-being of members of the University or its visitors.
  • Damage to University property or facilities, whether caused intentionally or recklessly, or the use of property or facilities for unapproved purposes.
  • Possession or use of any illegal drugs, substances or offensive weapons on University premises.
  • The consumption of alcohol and smoking (including e-cigarettes) within library spaces.
  • Complaints against the University or its members which are vexatious in nature or where there is evidence to suggest a false claim. For example, complaints motivated by malice or designed specifically to cause disruption, annoyance or to discredit an individual.
  • Any behaviour that interferes with the normal working of the University or any of its facilities or services.
  • Failure to comply with a temporary suspension or restriction or with a penalty imposed under the University’s regulations.
  • Any behaviour that damages, or has the potential to damage, the University’s reputation or damage.
