International Students: Library Guide

What new and prospective international students can expect from the University of Derby Library

How do I use the Library?

Your UniCard (your University ID card that you get when you enrol) is also your library card. You need it to borrow books and to get into the Library.

You can borrow up to 15 books and these are issued for 1 week at a time but don't worry they are automatically renewed for you every week unless another student requests the book

You can return books to any of our Libraries, not just to the site that you borrowed it from

Do I have to pay for any services?

You pay if you use the printers in the University

You pay for photocopying

We charge fines if you are late in returning a book that has been requested by another student

What to expect

The Library is free to use

Most books can be borrowed

Lecturers often recommend the books that you need to read. Most modules will provide an online resource list which directly links to your readings

Sometimes you have to research a subject yourself, and then you choose the books for yourself

There are help desks, online guides and staff available to help you use the library and find the information you need
