Communicate

Expert:  The expert level skills would be expected to be developed by the end of a final year undergraduate or taught postgraduate programme.

Expert level skills are essential for Masters level study and beyond.  You will be researching independently across topics of your own choice as well as studying modules with pre-set assignment questions.  Your assignments will possibly have a higher word count and demand higher level skills within your writing.  You may need to carry out further reading to understand the full demands of writing at this level.

You should be developing skills that help you to:

  • Fully understand the implications of Copyright and intellectual property when sharing or creating digital content.

  • Track the progress of research in your chosen topic.  This helps inform your writing by developing your skills at comparing and synthesizing evidence and strengthening your arguments, conclusions and recommendations using up to date research.

  • Communicate effectively in a variety of writing styles; for example by developing skills writing your abstract, literature review, scientific report, posters, journal articles or conference presentation.

  • Use effective verbal communication skills.

  • Construct a major bibliography or reference list incorporating a wide range of appropriate academic materials.

  • Be aware of suitable publication outlets including Open Access, and UDORA in which you might wish to disseminate the results of your research.
