Communicate

Advanced:  These are more advanced skills expected to be developed by the end of the third year of an undergraduate programme, for example.

At the Advanced level you are demonstrating your confidence with a growing range of Information Literacy skills.  You are building on a strong foundation of skills developed over your first and second years of study and preparing to face the challenges of your final year of your degree with it's emphasis on independent studies, reports and possibly your dissertation.

In particular you will be able to:

  • Be aware of alternative sources of information such as Creative Commons licenced materials.

  • Use critical analysis to interpret source material.

  • Use your prior knowledge of the subject to make connections with the sources found via your research.  This will help you to develop stronger arguments, conclusions and recommendations within your academic writing.

  • Develop your use of synthesis to incorporate information from a diverse range of sources including statistics, journal articles, technical papers, conference papers, news articles etc to provide evidence for a more complex subject.

  • Analyse, interpret and present data using advanced tools and techniques, for example, using SPSS, NVivo, Excel, where appropriate.

  • Produce a comprehensive literature review on a specific subject appropriate to your research or assignment requirements.

  • Communicate your findings in a format that is appropriate to the information, the intended audience and the type of assessment you are carrying out.

  • Communicate your personal skills development to others, demonstrating how you have used support and resources available from the Library.
