Intermediate: By the Intermediate level you are developing higher level skills. For example, you may be expected to demonstrate some or all of these by the end of the second year of an undergraduate programme.
The Intermediate level builds on the Information Literacy skills acquired in the previous levels. Your communication and creation skills should be developing, increasing your confidence to engage with independent academic study and research.
In particular you should feel able to:
- Reference accurately using the appropriate style guides in Cite them Right (or as recommended by your academic tutors).
- Adhere to rules of Copyright and plagiarism.
- Create longer reference lists using multiple resource types.
- Synthesize information from a diverse range of resources and understand how to communicate your findings clearly and in an appropriate style for your subject.
- Understand how to use direct quotations and paraphrasing to improve your academic writing.
- Communicate with different audiences for a variety of purposes, using different media or digital tools. This may include blog posts, presentations, infographics etc as well as standard essays or reports.
- Keep a record of the skills development activities you have engaged with; for example workshops, guides or self-led learning.
