Information on Accessing Services and Resources

A guide to the Library’s resources and services during the 12th and 13th July system update.

Service Notification

Due to essential updates, many of our library systems will be unavailable from 6am on 12th July until 6am on 13th of July. The library will remain open, but during this period certain services will not be running.

Reservations: You will not be able to place reservations on items during this time. You can however pick up reservations that are already set aside for you and check out books directly from the shelves.

Interlibrary Loans: You will not be able to request Interlibrary Loans during this time. Any placed prior to these dates will be fulfilled, and the service should be back up and running after the weekend.

Module Resource Lists: You will not be able to view your resource lists during this time. Resource lists will be available again after the system update.

Library Search: Library search will be unavailable during this time. However, there are lots of other ways for you to gain access to our resources (see below).

How to Access Online Resources

Access to the A-Z Databases:

  • Access your subject databases via our Databases A-Z. You can check out your subject LibGuides to see which databases might be appropriate for your course or research.

Access to Journals via BrowZine:

  • You can access individual journals using BrowZine, where you can find the list of journals we subscribe to.
  1. Download LibKey Nomad: LibKey Nomad is a browser extension that automatically provides links to the full text of journal articles subscribed to by the library and eBooks held within library collections, while you are carrying out your research. If we do not hold a subscription to an article, it will point you to open access alternatives.
  2. Download Lean Library: Lean Library makes it easier to access journals, eBooks and databases, particularly when you are studying off-campus. It is a browser extension that automatically detects when you are on a site so that the library can give you access.

Further Help

If you have any questions about access to the library during these dates, please don’t hesitate to get in contact with the team at library@derby.ac.uk, or use our live chat function, which you can find on the library home page.
