Return to Practice [DO NOT DELETE]

This guide is designed to introduce students on the Return to Practice programmes to search skills and resources, as well as to equip them for delivering a flipped classroom presentation to their librarian

Finding E-Books

You can use the library catalogue, to search for eBooks.

It is best to search by Author (just the surname) or Keyword (a keyword from the book's title).

You can identify the eBooks from the print books by the format statement underneath the book's title (Click here to see an example with screenshots).

If you want to narrow your results down to just eBooks, you can either select the Collection or Format type from the options in the left-hand column of the results page (see example below).

To access the eBook, click on the title of the book you wish to look at. On the next page which gives you more details about the book, there will be a small green arrow next to a link for the platform hosting the eBook (see below). Clicking on this link will take you to the website that holds the full-text of the eBook. Please ensure that you are logged into UDo before you follow any links from the catalogue, as it is your UDo login details that allow you access to these resources.

E-Book Link in Catalogue

For Dawsonera books, once you're on the Dawsonera platform, you will need to click on the read online button to read the full-text of the eBook and print/copy some of the text. You may also see a download button for use at home/ on your own device.

Using the search box for the catalogue below, look for the eBook, Developing reflective practice by Natius Oelofsen.

Tip! Type in the title and the author's surname to get a smaller, more precise number of results.

When you get your result on screen, have a look at the full-text of the eBook familiarising yourself with the way it works on the Dawsonera platform.

Remember! When you click on search you'll be taken to the catalogue so once you've finished exploring the eBook you will need to use your browser's back button to return to this guide.

Please note that not all texts are available in eBook format.

The Library cannot digitise or create eBooks in-house; they must be purchased via academic suppliers. E-books can only be purchased for institutional multi-user access if the publishers have made them available. Many publishers (particularly those of texts aimed at practitioners, as opposed to students) have not made their titles available as eBooks.

Some titles will be available for individual eBook purchase (i.e. via Amazon for Kindle) but not for institutional purchase. The availability of an eBook via Amazon or a similar online eBook seller is no guarantee that the title in question will be available for the Library to buy.
