Diamond Open Access (OA) is a model which does not charge the author or the reader to publish via the publisher's website or via an OA platform. It is viewed by many in the scholarly community as a sustainable and equitable model for OA in comparison with Gold OA. Often scholar-led, and community driven, Diamond OA is not a new concept, and has existed since the early 1990s. In certain areas of the globe, Latin America for example, Diamond OA has been flourishing for many years, with University presses dominating the landscape. The Diamond model of OA is a desirable option due to its multilingual nature, its tendency to showcase local and national research agendas, particularly in developing countries and its commitment to bilodiversity.
A good starting place to look for these titles is via the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) or via the journal inventory which was developed as part of the OPERAS OA Diamond Journals Study, commissioned by cOAlition S.
Another excellent place to search for Diamond OA journals and content is via the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO). SciELO is a bibliographic database, digital library, and cooperative electronic publishing model of open access journals and was created to meet the scientific communication needs of developing countries. It provides an efficient way to increase visibility and access to scientific literature.
