SPSS is a powerful software package for the analysis of statistics. Your lecturers will give you further information about when and how to use it, but if you want to install a copy on your own computer you can do so by logging into UDo, clicking on Study Guidance on the Launch Pad and then SPSS.
Please be aware that the downloaded software should only be used in relation to your course or research at the University of Derby. Both the PC and Mac versions of the software are ‘very large’ files. Please consider your connection speed and download allowance if you have one. If you have any problems installing the software please contact Digital Services & Solutions (IT Services) via their web page, from there you can access the knowledge base and chat with a member of the DS&S team via the live chat service (bottom-right of the web page).
NVivo is a software package specifically designed for the analysis of qualitative data. Your lecturers will give you further information about when and how to use it but the university can provide a copy of the software for your to install on your own computer.
Please be aware that the downloaded software should only be used in relation to your course or research at the University of Derby. Please ask at the IT Help Desk in your nearest university Library about borrowing a disc. If you have any problems installing the software please contact ITServiceDesk@derby.ac.uk or telephone +44 (0) 1332 591234.
If you are expected to use SPSS or NVIVO for the analysis of quantitative or qualitative data, you should be provided training on these tools within your programme.
Please note that the Library does not provide support on using either SPSS or NVIVO.
We do provide a range of books on the topics of performing quantitative and qualitative research, as well as on SPSS and NVIVO.
