How do I search The National Archives

The National Archives' catalogue is called Discovery, and it contains more than 32 million descriptions of records held by The National Archives and more than 2,500 archives across the country.

How do I access Discovery?

You can access Discovery from the National Archives very easily. Just follow the highlighted link here.

How do I see documents in The National Archives?

In total, over 9 million records are digitised and available to download when using Discovery. Some of this content will be freely available to you, but The National Archives may also point to companies who will charge you for accessing material that is digitised. Hopefully, everything you need will be freely available to you, but do speak to your tutor or your academic librarian before if you are ever tempted to pay for information—the last thing the library wants is for you to buy content unnecessarily!
