Top Tips for Exam Performance
Exam performance is what you do in the exam itself. This is your time to show how much you have learned and your thinking and writing skills.
Practicing your exam performance can help reduce exam anxiety by making the process more familiar and giving you confidence. Plan some practice exams into your revision using past exam papers or practice exam questions. If you have mock exams, revise for these fully in order to get the most out of them.
In the exam itself:
- Take time to read any instructions and be clear about what you will need to do.
- Decide how long you will need for each question - look at how many marks each question is worth to help you do this.
- Generally you will get more marks overall by answering all of the questions to a good standard, as opposed to answering one or two to a very high standard and not answering others. Sticking to the times that you have allocated will help you answer all of the questions.
- Identify the key instruction words in the questions, like describe or evaluate, and make sure that you follow these instructions in your answer.
