Advanced: These are more advanced skills expected to be developed by the end of the third year of an undergraduate programme, for example.
At the Advanced level you are demonstrating your confidence with a growing range of Information Literacy skills. You are building on a strong foundation of skills developed over your first and second years of study and preparing to face the challenges of your final year of your degree with it's emphasis on independent studies, reports and possibly your dissertation.
In particular you will be able to:
- Identify a problem or gap in the research and independently devise a detailed research plan. Understand the scope and focus of your information needs.
- Develop an advanced search strategy listing appropriate keywords, phrases, synonyms and related terms using appropriate academic or professional terminology.
- Undertake background research to inform the search.
- Apply your knowledge of Library resources to independently identify multiple sources relevant to your research need.
- Be aware of potential sources of information for keeping up to date and select those appropriate to your needs. (for example journal alerting services).
