Beginner: Skills expected to be developed by someone new to, or returning to University level study after a break in education.
At the Beginner level of the Discover pillar you should be developing skills which help you to:
- Use Library Search to find textbook or media-based resources.
- Understand how to locate print resources on library shelves using the Library classification system and how to borrow, return and reserve them.
- Know how to use general reference resources to get to know more about your subject. These might be in the Library or found online.
- Use the internet to conduct a basic search for relevant resources.
- Know where to go to find help and support. For example, who to ask in the Library or where to look on the Library website.
- Know when and how to use the Develop@Derby resources to support your skills development.
