Intermediate: By the Intermediate level you are developing higher level skills. For example, you may be expected to demonstrate some or all of these by the end of the second year of an undergraduate programme.
The Intermediate level builds on the Information Literacy skills acquired in the previous levels. Your critical thinking skills should be developing, increasing your confidence to engage with independent academic study and research.
In particular you will be developing the ability to:
- Understand the peer review process.
- Apply appropriate quality/evaluation criteria to critically evaluate information sources to determine credibility, authority, bias, currency etc.
- Apply quality criteria to carry out initial filtering of materials from searches. This may include developing skills of lateral reading. (See below for more information)
- Select appropriate sources ensuring that multiple viewpoints and perspectives are included.
- Review the search results and identify any modifications you need to make in order to improve future search results.
