Question

Expert:  The expert level skills would be expected to be developed by the end of a final year undergraduate or taught postgraduate programme.

Expert level skills are essential for Masters level study and beyond.  You will be researching independently across topics of your own choice as well as studying modules with pre-set assignment questions.

You should be developing skills that help you to:

  • Develop inclusion and exclusion criteria based on relevancy of your results to your research area.  This will enable you to filter large sets of results.

  • Apply critical evaluation and appraisal skills to the sources you select.

  • Understand how research outputs (ie journal articles) are evaluated and disseminated. This will include the peer review process, publication process and other forms of dissemination.

  • Demonstrate how the information you have found relates to your original search strategy and your own research project.  Review and adapt the search strategy as necessary.
