Meet the teams

The Academic Enhancement Team (AET) and Research & Publication Practice team have distinctive roles but work closely together to support the learning, teaching and research needs of staff and students.

Use the tabs on this page to find out more about the teams.

Academic Librarians

Academic Librarians liaise with the Colleges and professional services departments across the University. We design and deliver academic skills initiatives in support of the University’s learning and teaching priorities. Your Academic Librarian is your main point of contact with the library, and we can offer you and your students' advice and support about making the most effective use of our services and resources.

Academic Enhancement Coordinators

Academic Enhancement Coordinators support the Academic Librarians in the design and delivery of content which contributes to building academic skillsets across the University. We support taught students to build information literacy, enhancing their ability to research the academic literature, as well as to develop broader academic skills through a mixture of curriculum-based and co-curricular opportunities.

Who we are.

Amy Wheeldon - A.Wheeldon@derby.ac.uk

Michelle Bennett - M.Bennett@derby.ac.uk

The Research & Publication Practice team supports research academics and students at the university. We work closely with colleagues across the library, the Innovation and Research and Colleges. We offer weekly training sessions for research staff and students, providing an opportunity to have guidance and support on a variety of areas related to resources for research, and scholarly communications.

Research & Publication Practice Manager
Emma Butler – e.butler@derby.ac.uk

She plans and delivers training sessions including library induction for new postgraduate researchers, library induction for new supervisors and creating a research data management plan.  she manages the library's response to the Postgraduate Research Experience Survey (PRES)

One of Lisa's key roles is helping to increase the profile of research at the university through developing and promoting the library's collection of books published by members of the university.

Publication Practice Librarian
Holly Limbert – h.limbert@derby.ac.uk

Holly provides advice and guidance on the Open Research and Scholarly Communications landscape and is the main contact at the university for all matters relating to Open Access. She monitors compliance with the University's Research Publication and Open Access Policy and external funding organisations requirements around the dissemination of outputs. She is an Open Access expert who is passionate about alternative options to Gold Open Access, such as the Green and Diamond routes and the retention of author rights to achieve Open publication. She also manages and oversees the University's Institutional Repository service UDORA; the Green route to achieve Open Access. As a service, UDORA aims to support sharing and dissemination of scholarly outputs of all members of staff and students at Derby, communicating these to a global audience.

Copyright Officer

Donya Rowan - d.a.rowan@derby.ac.uk

Donya is the principal contact for the University for all matters on copyright law. She provides guidance and support to all students, staff and researchers to help you to understand and find your way through the labyrinthine copyright legislature. Donya creates guides and training which break down copyright law into digestible bite-size pieces to help you build your knowledge and understanding of how you can be both copyright compliant and use third-party content in your studies, teaching and research. She also provides guidance on how to license your work with Creative Commons, retain your copyright with Rights Retention and discuss publisher contracts and your published material.
