Preparing for academic writing (academic writing series 1)

Overview:
In this active session, students will learn  the steps that  they should take to best prepare them for writing an assignment. These include understanding the assessment, creating a timeline and creating an outline of the assignment. There will be activities and opportunities to interact with the presenter during and after the workshop.

Level:
Intermediate 

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand the importance of analysing the assignment question to ensure that the question is answered 

  • Know how to break down the assignment question into its component parts 

  • Identify methods for planning an assignment and for prioritising work. 

  • Be able to create a skeleton essay plan that will inform the writing process, and understand the benefit of this
