RNIB Bookshare

RNIB Bookshare is an education based collection for print-disabled learners. It provides you with the opportunity to:

  • Listen to books with high quality text-to-speech voices
  • Hear and see highlighted words on screen
  • Read with digital braille or enlarged fonts
  • Create physical braille or large print
  • Read directly from your Internet browser
  • And more!

In order to access RNIB Bookshare you will need to be registered with Student Wellbeing and have a support plan in place.

To request access and get further information about registering for RNIB Bookshare please email e-resources@derby.ac.uk

  • a visual impairment: blind or partially sighted

  • a specific learning difference such as Dyslexia, Autism, Attention Deficit Disorder

  • a physical disability: e.g. do you use a wheelchair or crutches.

We will also need to know what format you would prefer your documents to be made available in.

  •  DAISY text only
  •  Braille Ready Format
  •  EPUB
  •  Word

We can't guarantee that all formats or all titles are available from Bookshare.  Some titles may be available immediately whilst others may need to be requested.  Availability is dependent on publisher agreements with RNIB Bookshare and some requests may take a significant time to be made available or may not be made available at all.

You will only need to register for the RNIB Bookshare service once whilst you are at university.
