Assess your Digital Capabilities

Jisc have developed a free Digital Capabilities Discovery tool which you can use to assess your own digital skills. It will provide you with a personalised, downloadable report, giving you an indicator of your current capabilities and suggestions for any skills to improve on.

You can also access resources and training to help you boost your knowledge and capabilities to support your studies and build workplace skills.

By using this tool, you will: 

• Develop your digital capabilities.
• Understand digital tools and techniques that can be used to enhance your studies.
• Increase your awareness of different digital tools that you can go on to use in the workplace.
• Identify reading and resources that can help you develop your digital skills further.

Within the self-assessment you’ll be asked a series of around 30 questions, after which you will get your personalised, downloadable report. You'll get an indicator of your current capabilities, and your strengths and weaknesses in different areas.

How to access the self-assessment:

• Click 'Start the Discovery Tool' which will take you to the Jisc website.
• Start typing 'Derby' in the search box.
• Click on 'University of Derby' when it appears.
• Select Continue.
• Sign in with your Unimail username and password.

The first time you set up your Jisc account, you will be asked to select whether you are a student or staff member. Choose the 'student' profile which will allow you to access the student discovery tool once you are taken to your homepage.

In the next section you’ll review your report to reflect and develop new skills to improve your capabilities at a pace that suits you.
