Information literacy education plays a fundamental part in developing students‘ information literacy skills and can enable them to become independent lifelong learners as well as more successful in their academic work6, 7. Best practice has shown that information literacy skills are best developed within the context of academic programmes. When embedded and integrated into the curriculum, it encourages students to “value the importance of generic attributes and information literacy skills in their own discipline area and see their link to educational content and professional practice”8. Evaluation of information literacy instruction indicates multiple positive results including higher grades9; student retention10; better quality assignments11, 12; greater use of academic resources13, 14.
