Staff Copyright Guide

Can I make print or electronic copies of a book or journal supplied via Inter-Library Loan?

No. You can only make copies, photocopied or scanned, from books/journals that the Library owns or copyright-cleared versions of the same supplied via the Content & Discovery team (Copyright).

Does the CLA licence cover the University's partner institutions overseas?

The CLA licence solely covers material copied in the UK; other licensing laws will apply overseas. Students at the University's partner institutions in Europe and Africa are not HESA-registered students of theUniversity of Derby and are therefore not covered by the CLA licence.

However, distance learning students based overseas may still receive, print and download material copied under the CLA licence in the same manner as campus-based students.

The Library doesn't stock an article or book chapter I want my students to read. How can I make it available to them?

The Content & Discovery team  provides a service for locating copies of books or journal extracts that the Library does not stock. This involves paying for a copyright-cleared version to be supplied, usually by the British Library. This will then be uploaded to your Resource List by the Content & Discovery team  which you can link within Blackboard.

These resources must only be made available to the particular cohort of students on the module in question and only for the duration of the module in question. If you wish to use the resources in a subsequent academic year let the team know and they will reapply on your behalf.
