Nature Connectedness

Nature connection is about our relationship with the natural world. How we think, how we feel, and how we interact with it. While being physically in nature matters for health and wellbeing, true connection involves engaging emotionally, mentally, and physically to create a relationship that benefits both people and the planet.

People with a strong sense of nature connectedness:

  • Think of themselves as a part of nature
  • Value nature
  • Feel an emotional bond with nature
  • Notice & Care for nature
  • See their relationship with nature as a key part of who they are

Produced by colleagues at the University of Derby, the Nature Connection Handbook was made to offer guidance and support to those that wish to put the relationship between nature and people into practice.

The Nature Connection Handbook is a useful resource for individuals, and more recently the Nature Connected Communities handbook was released to further aid organisations, collectives, and individuals who want to help grow communities that are better connected with the rest of nature.
